Sotheby’s set a new world record for the most expensive sapphire at its October 7 auction in Hong Kong. Then it broke that record again at the same auction.
First, this stunning Cartier sapphire and emerald ring sold for $2.3 million, setting a new record sapphire price per carat of $193,975.
Then this 17.16-carat, unheated Kashmir sapphire and diamond ring sold for $4.1 million, setting a new world record sapphire price per carat of $236,404.
The previous record price per carat for a sapphire was set by a 28.18-carat Kashmir sapphire and diamond ring that sold for $5,093,000, or $180,731 per carat, at Sotheby’s New York in April 2014.
Which is your favorite? For me, desire the fact that I want to dive into the big blues, it’s that divinely Art Deco Cartier ring.
